Dependencies for Kernel 2.6

I am wondering everytime that want to recompile a kernel (the newest kernel) it fails. I believe this to bed that I do not have the correct dependencies. Is there a site that you can direct to or reply with what those are. I am running redhat 9. I have made sure that the recompile applications have been installed. thank in adavance.
