dd: input/output error?

I've been having touble getting dd to work - when I try it, i get
Code:
# dd if=/dev/dvd of=cd_2.iso
dd: reading `/dev/dvd': Input/output error
16336+0 records in
16336+0 records out
And when I do an md5sum check, the sums don't match... Any advice on how I can diagnose this problem, or what I can do to fix it? Thanks so much.

Looks like your DVD is damaged; this is not a problem of dd.
Can you test the disc with another drive?
