Unhappy change system name


hai

I am new to linux.Plz tell me

1) how can i change the name of my computer ?
2)how can i permanently configure an address for my ethernet?

My platform is RHL 8

Hi!

The answer to both questions is (from the Start menu) 'System Settings' > 'Network'.

Actually I am not getting the Xwindow now.So Plz tell how can i change it in the text mode?

your IP address depends on your ISP
3 types provided by ISP are most popular
pppoe - dial up
dhcp - server assigns IP for you (most convenient)
static IP - you "passport" on network permanent IP address

Sorry for this somewhat slow response. The reason is that it's not that simple. All settings for networking are in the folder
/etc/sysconfig/networking/
If you already have settings there, maybe you can just modify them.

I don't have much time to help you. Right now I need to sleep since it's rather late (23:30) in Sweden.

You can run 'System Settings' > 'Network' in text mode. redhat-config-network-tui
