cdrom mounting problems

sorry for the brief subject, and possibly for the very obvious question, but why is it that only root can mount a cd-rom? and how i do i allow users to mount cd's?

is it normal linux behaviour for only root to be able to mount a cdrom? i tried changing permissions on /dev/hdc and /mnt/cdrom. the cdrom line in my fstab is currently "/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto 0 0"

thanks in advance for any help

Try this:
Code:
/dev/cdrom	/mnt/cdrom	iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
# Managing drives
LNAG - Accessing my drives
Rute - Device Mounting
