Question cdrom mounting problems

my cdrom entry in /etc/fstab looks thus (one line):

/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,user,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

as super-user, i try to mount my cdrom :

$ mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: /dev/hdc is not a valid block device

as generic user, i get the same message. any hints?

thanks

can't mount music cd's, open a player and play it. (it has no file system to mount).

that would be my usual recourse, yes.

usually when i put a music cd in, the cd automatically mounts and plays. a little cd icon appears on the desktop, and so forth.

now, when i try to play, the generic redhat player gives an error, and nothing mounts or anything. no icon.

thanks for the help.

I also notice that /dev/cdrom doesn't exist.

does that mean that i have no cd support present?
