can not login with regular user after installing new kernel

Hello,
I installed newer kernel and I could not log into the system as a regular user after rebooting. I logged in as root and changed the password for regular user, logged out and tried logging back in as regular user but no luck.
I rebooted the system with original kernel ( previous ) also but i still could not log in as regular user. what could have changed with installing new kernel?

Did you do something more involved than a standard update that included a new kernel image?
Things that come to mind include: missing a necessary module or part of the initram image, changes to PAM, /etc/passwd, /etc/group/, or (most importantly) /etc/shadow. Unless you somehow overwrote these files or replaced them with a package default, you should not have lost user information from an upgrade.

Thank you folks.
Figured out why i could not login as regular user after installing new kernel.
actually, it has nothing to do with kernel upgrade.
i created /etc/nologin file which stopped all regular users from logging. i deleted the file and i was able to login
