Question Can I FTP into my server using IE?

Hi,

I use IE as my FTP client to connect to FTP sites on Windows servers. I tried FTPing into a new FTP site I set up on my Scientific Linux but was not able to.

I can FTP into it using the command line. Can I not use IE to FTP into Linux or is there a setting that I need to tweak?

You should be able to connect to a ftp server via IE. IE tries to connect as anonymous user by default so you could try to following url: ftp://user:password@servername.com
if u want to log in as another user.

EDIT: Disabling smilies.

That didn't work

Hi,

I tried exactly that but it didn't work. ftp://usernameassword@MyServerIP

IE also gives you Login as option under File menu. I tried that too but I'm getting make sure you have access permissions error from IE.

I however, am able to login using the same user name and password through the command line.

Question Passive FTP

I was wondering if active vs passive ftp mode would have anything to do w/ my problem. I still can't use IE to ftp into my site but I can definitely connect/upload/delete files, etc using the command line. So I have full access to my site. How come I can't connect w/ IE?

Looks like it's our firewall. I was able to ftp into my site using IE from a windows machine that bypassed the firewall.
