I'm not sure how you "put floppy icon onto Desktop"

Where and what should the entry be?

I don't know
But I'll make a guess here: R-Click the floppy icon on your desktop. Properties tab. Click the down-arrow for "device". Choose something suitable like
/dev/fd0
I no longer use floppies, but I do use USB sticks. When I plug them in they just appear on my destop. I use them and then R-click and choose "Unmount". Works like a charm. But I am using a moderately old, but fully supported and reliably stable distro [
http://www.kubuntu.org/download.php#lts ]
Are you still using KDE4 ? I am sticking with KDE3 (again, for stability: I value
function over
form).
If the floppy has been mounted you should be able to access the files by navigating to its mountpoint, (
/mnt/floppy in the example I gave you above) with your filemanager.
Don't forget to unmount it before you eject it.
