I ran into a similar problem with a clean installation of Fedora 14 Alpha and the fact that even the automatic login would cause GDM to crash, and there I was, back in GDM (which is the login screen). However, I have since reverted back to Ubuntu, as F14 was a real nightmare (especially with SELinux enabled).
