Can't get past login screen

The other day when I rebooted I could not get past the 'login screen' on linux so in XP I searched for "can not logni" without success.
(Duel boot system)

Later I found out that if I used a 'Live CD' and went into the terminal I entered 'sodu konqueror' after giving the user all permissions available and changed the file ".ICRauthority" to ".ICRauthority.tmp". When I rebooted without the 'Live CD' I was able to login easily.

Please post what you just posted here at the end of your thread from yesterday. If someone has that problem in the future they are going to read that thread looking for the solution.

Can you tell me in SIMPLE terms how to post in CORRECT area? I asked the web host yet was not told how to find the correct area to post it....
