Hi,
I tried the CD of One, KDE. It worked. Loved it. Installed it and LiLo. The first time I ran it off the hard drive, LiLo booted. Linux started, went through the network setup stuff and user stuff. Now when I try to log in, no matter what I select, it accepts the login and starts to boot, goes to the blue screen with the wait cursor and after about 2 min. Stops and puts me back at the login screen again.
I tried startkde also and this is what I got.
if this is such a fresh install....why not do a clean install and select grub and see if that fares any better?
2) there may be another 3 issues a b c
a kernel (and modules and initial ramdisk image )compat with your hardware
b a nice /etc/X11/xorg.conf file ....not too aggressive attempt on your video card
c a failure of the booting scripts....the init process....but less likely than the others
Other than what was mentioned above, I have no clue. However, you are not the first person I have heard of that had problems with the on CD (mini) version of Mandriva.
I had problems installing it myself, finally got annoyed with it, and just DLed the 4 CD version - and got it to install fine.......
Switch off the 3d desktop (did you enable it?). You can try CTRL-ALT-Backspace if your system doesn't leave the blue screen for ten seconds (that is, some splash screen should appear). Will cause a restart of the x-server and bring you back to the login screen. If at the second login attempt it still refuses to go further write again.
Is it a GUI log in screen? If so, select the KDE option in the session type menu near the bottom of the screen.
If that gets the same result, choose the 3D Desktop option, disable 3D Desktop effects and click OK to return to the log in screen. Again choose the KDE option in the session type menu.
I've decided to give up on Mandriva as much as I seemed to like it and give a shot on Suse. I'll keep ya posted.
Thanks for your help. I'll probably mess around with the xorg file someday just to see what I can do. 'Cause you should be able to just change that to the same setting that the cd was using to successfully boot right?

I had problems getting past login also until I discovered what I put in thread:
