A portable hard drive help request
I few weeks back, I started a thread elsewhere about linux on a portable hard drive. Here's what I want: A bootable linux system (I prefer Ubuntu) that is installed entirely on a portable hard drive. I recently purchased a Seagate 40gb hard drive. I want the portability of a live cd, with the ability to take it from computer to computer, and keep programs, documents and the like on it. Basically, a customizble live cd that stores data between sessions. My comp does support usb booting. I tried putting Ubuntu on, installed the boot loader to the first extended partition of my portable hard drive, and set my first boot to usb-hdd. I got this message: Verifying DMI Pool Data.... and then nothing started. A tutorial on how to do this would be much appreciated. Any suggestions or workarounds are welcome.
