Linksys router wired to 2 computers: WinXP and Fedora 8
Both computers are already sharing the internet with no problem.
Fedora 8 connected to the internet as soon as I connected the ethernet cable from the router to the back of the fedora computer.
What I want to do is access the shared folder on WinXP.
In other words, a one-way share. I want to be able to see the shared folder on WinXp with Fedora 8.
Are there easy GUI steps to accomplish this?
And another question that may or may not be related to this:
In Fedora System > Network (Network Configuration) on the DNS tab the Hostname is listed as localhost.localdomain, which was set up that way automatically when I installed Fedora from the Live CD. I didn't change the default.
Will I need to change that entry to reflect my work group's name? And if so, will that change my command line prompt, which right now is [myname@localhost ~]$
One other thing. A Vista computer is also on this network and has access to WinXp shared folder but Fedora 8 doesn't need to 'see' Vista.
(I wish I didn't have to see Vista either, but that's another story.)

As for gui there is a tool called smb4k. Also if using KDE you can use the smb://machine_ip/share_name in the konqueror window. For Gnome I don't know.
If you have define host names for ips in your /etc/hosts file then you can use the host name instead of ip.

I was able to open the WinXP shared folder with no problem using Konqueror. With smb4k, I did a search for my WinXP's ip address and it found it, but when I clicked on it in the Network window, I got error messages from the 'setroubleshoot browser'.

Summary
SELinux is preventing /usr/bin/net (samba_net_t) "read write" to socket
(unconfined_t).
Detailed Description
SELinux denied access requested by /usr/bin/net. It is not expected that
this access is required by /usr/bin/net and this access may signal an
intrusion attempt. It is also possible that the specific version or
configuration of the application is causing it to require additional access.
