connecting to a WinXP share

ok, I have a few windows machines and a couple of linux (slackware 8.0 machines) on my network. I just recently setup another WinXP machine, and I am trying to have it setup a share. I have it use plain text passwords.

Pretty much, I cant do an smbclient //computer/share on this new winxp install, but I can do it to my older install. The new winXP machine is able to connect to anything else on the network, and can even connect to password protected shares. But when I try to smbmount or do a smbclient connect to a share on the new winxp install, it just wont work. Other windows machines can connect to it though. Here is the error I get

root@Kyrra:~# smbclient //mp3-center/videos
added interface ip= bcast= nmask=
Got a positive name query response from ( )
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[NLWORKS] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)

and if I try to do a list of the shares on the computer, I get the same ERRnoaccess.

Any ideas?

I know your post is a couple months old, so you have gotten this fixed, but here we go...

I noticed in your post that you didn't specify an flags when you ran might try it like so

smbclient -L winxp machine -U username

Maybe this will help? Maybe not?

just as a note:

i have noted from some other posts that winXP has, in some cases, sign ( as in ssl ) client 2 server and client 2 client switched on by default

if you go to local security policy in control panel , administrative tools

some where in there it will have the option to disable it

this seems to have solved some XP to samba connectivity issues
