VSFTP and sharing from network

Hola! My question goes as follows. I have VSFTP set up so people on the Internet can see my ftp (had my friend connect to it). Now from what i understand in order for you to share files, the files have to be in /srv/ftp folder. now is there any way i can have shares from say my Xp machine without actually putting the files on the linux box or for that matter on an external drive?, see the thing is the hdd on the ftp server is very limited (11.0GB) and i need to put 40+ gigs of info, so as you can see it will not fit on that drive. My thinking was that if i tried to symlink it, it might work but..... guess not symlink from what i read is only for files not directories. Any help is appreciated and much thanks

Oh yeah forgot to mention i do have a network going at home everything seems to work i can see my windows shares.

you can symlink the directory no problem. you might want to make the samba mount read only though, so as to not lead on to nastier things. Some specifically unix level applications will often ignore either non-linux filessytems or symlinks though. these safety fetaures can normally be modified to suit your needs however.
