VPNclient and ping

I am trying to connect to a virtual network using VPNclient. IP addresses on the remote network are 10.0.0.200, 10.0.0.201, 10.0.0.203 etc. If I type "ping 10.0.0.0 -b", I get a response from all the remote networked computers, as well as from my local machine 10.0.0.20. My own LAN becomes disabled (it is supposed to) after invoking VPNclient. However, I cannot ping any of the remote machines individually - e.g. ping 10.0.0.200 results in a comment that the address is "unreachable".

What is wrong here?

Thank you for helping.
