VNC from windows XP to MDK 9.1 trouble

I would appreciate some help.

I am trying to log into my MDK 9.1 pc from my Windows XP pc. They are all on the same network (eventually I will try this over the web). I have tried running rfbdrake and tightvnc but I can not get it working.

With tightvnc when I start it from the K start button (KDE) all I get is a shell and a small box in the middle that states vnc server with a blank. What should I put in there if anything? I want the MDK pc to be the server. Is there anything else I need to do? With 2 Windows pc's it is as simple as starting the server on one and the client on the other, typing in the IP address and you are connected....not so simple/intuitive it seems in this setup. When I try to connect from XP I can't seem to make a connection.

I also tried using MDK's virtual connection under the K start button as well. This apparent starts rfbdrake. I went through the menus as chose let me linux pc be controlled by another machine and then put in the password. I get the RFB icon on the desktop. I then go to my XP pc and use realVNC and type in the IP address. I then get a popup window on the MDK pc that asks me to allow a user to control that pc. I say yes, go back to the XP pc and it asks me for the password. I put the password in that I had chosen on the MDK pc but it says it is invalid.

What am I doing wrong? Do you always have to hit OK on the MDK pc when a connection is incoming? Can't you set it up so that if the password is correct you can just connect?

Thanks in advance.

Try running the command "vncpasswd" in a terminal. Maybe I had that same problem, it turned out there was no password set up for vnc.
