umount /var device busy

First of all, is there any way to log the startup and shutdown information in RH yarrow core 1? This might make it easier to trouble shoot my problems if I could read the text that flies past so rapidly.

The problem I am ahaving is that periodically I loose connection to the outside world through my linux box. Connecting via 10.10.10.1 works fine on eth1 but connections outside on eth0 (66.224.x.x) fail and incommoing connections on eth0 fail as well. I have replaced the network card twice and this problem still occurs.

Rebooting is the only solution to this problem as it brings connectivity back again to eth0 but it shortly goes away.

When I reboot I am told that umount /var cannot happen because the device is busy. It also checks the disk on reboot.

I have /var on /hdb1 and a symlink to /qmail /html /home and some others to that drive as well.

I would like to know if anyone has a solution to this or where I could look in the log files etc for something going wrong?

I'm not sure about the rest, but running dmesg | less from the console will show you what is happening on boot
