umount: /mnt/a5: device is busy

I find it rather annoying when trying to unmount a partition and I get the "device is busy" error..... especially when I can't find an xterm that is in that directory branch.

Is there any way to see the location of users at a certain time as well as the tty they're on?

fuser maybe the command you are looking for. see man fuser.

I use fuser -muv /mnt/dvd to find out who's using my mounted dvd. You can kill the processes from within fuser by using the -k option, but be sure to list them out first. especially if you're root.
