Ubuntu CANT see any xp shared Folders!

hi! this is the first time i actually have to post a question here i usually always find the answer, so for that thx a LOT. anyway heres the problem:

the first time I installed ubuntu 5.10 Breezy badger all the shared folders from my other pc were automaticly in the "places" area. But i had to reinstall everything cuz i made a booboo with ubuntu lts for some reason my soundcard wasnt working. anyways NOW that nothing has changed and just had ubuntu 5.10 re-installed and upgraded all the way it wont see my xp shared files. wierd thing is i get my internet on dhcp and I can see the windows Networking but its empty instead and both pcs are conected to the dsl hub were they use to be befor the re-install.
what can i do?? re-install again and hope to god?

thx guys!!!

no you don't have to reinstall!
try 1st on a console #smbclient -L (ip-adress) like smbclient -L 192.168.1.200
check if there are any shares listed.

Is that what you tried to get? Is it solved now?
Have you ever tried smb4k? Its a nice Samba Browser.
Or WinSCP (for windows) is also a great tool that lets you copy files from windows (ntfs) to ext3 filesystem and the other way around.

At the End your happy and thats the deal.
By the way. I don't think Samba was the fault.
Maybe Firewall on Windows or missing Folder & Printer Share Option or
any third Party Firewall like Norton or McAffee could have been the reason.

Here WinSCP : http://winscp.net/eng/download.php
and Smb4k : http://dag.wieers.com/packages/smb4k/
VNC Viewer for Win: http://www.realvnc.com/download.html

regards
