Shared Folders

I am unfamiliar with the Linux CLI, and I've looked up several online books. What is the Linux equivalent to the DOS commands: ipconfig, tracert, ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, net send

If there are Linux equivalents to DOS commands and somebody could share some with me it would be greatly appreciated.

Also how would I go about accessing my Linux shared folders from a Windows machine? I have a shared folder set up, and I was wondering if I start a Samba server could I just go to start, then run, then \\computername like I would normally access those folders on another Windows machine.

first of all..strange u didnt find the equivalents in any books..the unix equivalent for ipconfig is ifconfig and for tracert its traceroute ; as for the samba server you will need to read up the documentation but a tip here would be that you need to play around with the smb.conf file ...i think its in /etc/samba...you also have a GUI I think its called smbclient....google away with this info...sure u shud finfd something...all the best
