I've managed to figure out Samba server for my MandrakeLinux 10.1, when accessing it from Windows you have to use the IP because the difference in the two OS's won't let Windows recognize the Linux hostname, but I have a problem. When I try to access my shared folders from a Windows machine it prompts for a username and password, and I've tried my username and password and it didn't work, I tried the root username and password and it didn't work. Does anybody know the correct syntax to put in the username and password when accessing them from a Windows machine?

You have to create samba users on the Linux machine as samba maintains a seperate user database from the standard Linux local files (/etc/passwd and /etc/groups).
