trouble installing modem Intel modem module

I am running Slackware 10.1 with (at the moment) the 2.4.29 kernel that it comes with. Anyway, I have a modem with the Intel 536EP chipset that Intel supplies drivers for on its website. So anyway, when I try to insert the driver kernel module with insmod, I get the following error:

Intel536.o: unresolved symbol put_tty_driver

Is there anything I can do to get the module to work?
