So, I'm sitting here at work remotely logged into my ssh server at home. I'm wondering if their is anyway to copy files from my windows c: drive to my ssh session. Anyway to do this without FTP? Thanks
Thanks Steve. I'll take a look around for those files since I'm using putty. I saw some post mentioning using scp or sftp but I'm not following how to use those. It seems they are meant for file transfers from linux to linux boxes on the same private LAN's. I need to xfer from Remote private LAN to my private LAN at home. I'll check out the putty ftp features. Thanks.
Does the LAN where the Linux box sits have port forwarding from the internet to the Linux box? If not, there will be a problem initiating the connection since I'd expect that the Linux box has a private (non-routable) IP address.
Once port forwarding is set up, this is no problem. Any SSH packets arriving at your work's firewall are re-directed to the Linux box.
Thanks again Steve. I'm only forwarding one port (My SSH port) on my router at home to my Linux box. I actually D/L'd a nice SSH program called ZOC. I just went ahead and used that and it makes transfers simple. I just click transfer button and choose file and it sends it right over. Works great.
