Post slow logins to telnet/ftp from outside firewall

Hi,
Has anybody else out there had this problem?

1) Telneting in to my linux-box is very quick if I use the WAN IP, but if I use the LAN IP it takes average 1 min. 20s.

2) FTP Server is very slow, often taking 1min. 20s. or so to show listing. This seems to be regardless of using outside or inside IP's.

I can tell I am connected to the server when I telnet in, but it does not display the login prompt for the long delay. Same deal with the FTP (using proftpd as server)... I connect, but it takes a long time to LIST. Anybody else out there encountered this problem?

Thanks for any advice!

Welcome to the board. You might do a search first before posting this question -- it's already been asked and answered twice this last week...and, without more detail about your problem I'll bet at least part of this applies to what you're experiencing.

Anyway, you'll probably get your answer faster too

Many thanks for the welcoming tip...

I fixed the telnet problem I was having based on those webpages (THANKS!)... did some more searching on my FTP problem and came up empty handed again...

story: my ftp daemon used to work fine (so i think its 'mostly' setup correct) a few weeks ago, until I tried installing a couple other servers... PPP/SMTP and samba I think, thats when it started acting weird... my telnet/ftpd started acting weird so i freaked out and uninstalled all that stuff I had just added.... but my ftp is still acting weird

So now when I log in with an FTP client... it gets hung up when it tries to execute the LIST command... it eventually lists after a couple minutes... but then every time it executes the LIST command it gets hung for a couple minutes again... please give tips if anyone has encountered this problem before...

Thanks Again
