Unhappy Sharing alcatel speedtouch connection, 2 linux pc's

Hi! This is the first time I've posted a thread, but I have been helped in many problems by other threads here on linuxquestions.org. I can't find anything on this topic though.

I have used usb.sourceforge to get my alcatel speedtouch working in SuSE 9.2 but I can't get it to share with a mandrake 9.2 system.

I am an absolute newbie to networking, I have plugged everything in but am getting at best a 50% packet loss, usually 75%.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks.

Do you have a USB or a Cat5 cable connection from your Speedtouch (presumably [A]DSL) modem connection? I had to get a Linksys Router to enable a 'crossover' between a USB modem input to my desktop computer and my Cat5 cable LAN switch which provides LAN and internet access to my laptop and Tablet PC (wireless) as well as an IP-addressable Color laser printer (konica minolta magicolor 2300DL).

It's a usb. I had my two machines running mandrake 10.1 and networked with the same hardware and they were sharing the connection. Nothing happened, and then it stopped working! I feel sure that the hardware is capable of the task.
