Alcatel Speedtouch

I have used the search button on the forums and have found many useful links to sites. I ended up using the tutorial off this site:

I tried to compile my own kernel to no success and therefore i couldn't put in the options and compile the new kernel with things like PPP etc so i jsut had to hope it was already installed in my Red Hat Linux 9 installation kernel.

However having followed the tutorial Linux recognieses my modem but PPP doesn't seem to want to connect. Now this led me to the PPP tutorial which suggested a problem might be a lack of PPP kernel installation.

So this brings me to my question about Linux and the kernel. is it possible to install the PPP stuff as some kind of kernel module or edit the current kernel settings?

Any help would be much appreciated especially from people that ahve isntalled one on Red Hat Linux 9
