Alcatel SpeedTouch connection with Redhat 8.0

Hi,

I recently installed Redhat 8.0 and everything is running fine however I'm trying to install my Alcatel SpeedTouch USB for my DSL connection and have been having countless problems. I've seen allot of postings about how to do it and have gone through all the procedures resulting in no success. Is there a simple way to connect this unit??

Perhaps you could be a little more specific as to what you have tried. A quick google got me this:
http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/

Redhat 8.0 and Speedtouch USB

Hi,

So far I've tried the Papillault drivers, I've also tried the group consisting of the Speedtouch -1.1-1.i586.rpm along with the speedmgmt file. I also tried the auto installer called adsl.tar. The best I got was the lights flickering on the box. However when I looked at the message file in the log folder, it didn't appear to specifically identify the unit.

Did you check out the link I posted? I read this at that site:

"Alcatel/Thomson provides a binary management daemon that needs to be used in conjunction with this driver. " Since I don't have an Alcatel modem i really didn't want to register just to see what the daemon was about. Ayway- did you get the daemon?

Hi,

I had seen that link previously. The problem I had was that the Sarlib program would not install. More precisely the Make command would not work.

OK - if make wouldn't work I assume it gave you an error of some sort. Perhaps there is some set of libraries you need? After you decompressed it was there a README or INSTALL file perhaps that might tell you? Maybe the web site has requirements listed. Since I don't know your extent of Linux knowledge I don't mean to tell you something you already know. Sometimes you don't do the standard
./configure
make
make install

I'm just making guesses here you realize- I'll search around a little today and see what I can come up with.
