hi. i have set samba domain. i am able to add win 7 and xp clients. all r working fine. But i have a doubt. If i shutdown the samba pdc server, i should be able to login the client machine with the same profile(which i had, when the samba pdc server was up).
Now , if i shutdown the sambapdc, i am able to login the client machine, but new profile is being created. How to avoid this. How to say to samba that the client machine should load the same profile which was created when the server was up and running .I do not want the client machines to create new a profile when the server is down..........bcoz in windows domain, when the windows domain is shutdown, the client machines are able to login with the same profile(the profile which was created when the domain was up)....i wish to have same thing in samba pdc also....ideas please.......................

If the domain controller is down, you won't be able to log in with your domain\username account as there's nothing for you to authenticate against... You can log in with your hostname\username account on systems without a PDC. The domain\username and hostname\username are two separate profiles with different levels of permissions.
If you can log in to a system whether the PDC is running or not then you're using a hostname\username account.
Actually in windows AD,its possible to login using domain credentials, even when the windows domain is down.....i just want to enable this option in linux. In windows, when the domain server is shutdown, i am able to login using domain username and password.this is possible when i disconnect the lan cable from network only. Here same domain profile is loaded. After logging in we can connect the lan cable back to the network...it works fine......Is there any way to enable this in linux....Because ,if linux domain is down, bcoz of some reason, i still want the client machines to login with the same linux domain credentials and with the same profile ,which was created during the first time......Now ,when the linux domain is down, i am able to login using linux domain credentials but ,while on loading the desktop,it displays a popup in system tray saying that...temprorary profile has been loaded...When the linux domain comes up, and the original profile gets updated from the temp profile............Is there any way to make this possible in linux ............
