pure-ftp

I recently configured and installed pure-ftp on my SuSe 9.3 open source version.

I started it in the background by issuing the command:

/usr/local/sbin/pure-ftpd &

and I made sure it was running by issuing the command:

ps aux | grep pure-ftpd

I like editing my files on windows then remote saving them on a server. I used smart ftp and I couldn't log in at all.

I used crimson editor and I can save the file remotely (via ftp) but only 1 out of 5 times !?!?! the times it doesn't save here are the two error messages I get, in this order:

1) 200TYPE is now 8-bit binary
500 unknown command
500 unknown command

2) failed to save remote file "/home/username/dir....."

I don't want to download and install yet another server, unless necessary, I already tackled sftp for two days.

I searched both the crimson and the suse help files, and I got nothing

any help would be appreciated, thank you

Pure-ftpd has many run-time options. You usually need to use quite many of them. I don't know the details of you config (NAT?, authentication method?), so can't give you a list. Pure-ftpd help file has full list of them.
