I am configuring my Cable modem, have run linuxconf and set it up as best I can, but have hit a problem:

When I try to ping or FTP to a remote site, I get a "no route to host" message.

The Gateway entry is the right one, I've double-checked that.

For example, if I 'ping ftp.cdrom.com' it comes back with a
message like

ping ftp.cdrom.com(nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn) 86 Octets of data

and hangs (it finds the IP address alright so my DNS must be OK).

I've got the "Running Linux" book and tried the things it says about routing but still no luck.

Help appreciated.

Thanks.

Oh yeah, forgot to add that I did a

route add default gw nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn eth0

where nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn is the IP address of my gateway as provided by my ISP.
