no route to host
I'm having a bit of a problem when I am trying to access an IRC network from my server. I am able to telnet in with ssh however, when I try to access a IRC network it's not letting me.
I am able to use lynx and I am able to use other services like ftp and telnet outbound but this seems to be the only serivce not working.
I wonder if anyone might have a sugesstion?
Thank You in advance.

Im not trying to run an ircd, I was trying to run an IRC Client and connect to a server.
The server (dork.egeekz.net) is running bind and is resolving properly. (and all of the vhosts)
mail is working fine
http is working fine
bind/dns running fine
Any ideas?

I never said you were running a ircd. My questions were simple and to the point.
Now is /etc/resolv.conf correct? All your name servers should be listed there because Xchat uses that file to resolv the dns

Yes was just confused by the wording of your question I apologize for my confusion.
respectfully, in my resolv.conf there are both of the nameservers and it is set to search my domain:
search egeekz.net
nameserver 69.36.12.43
nameserver 69.36.12.43
I assume everything is resolving properly because if I am not mistaken but my subdomains wouldn't be getting any dns if this wasn't functioning properly?
It could very well be that this is an issue, I am unsure.
However, to answer your last question about the irc server
no the client just says its connecting (it doesn't even attempt)
then just times out from trying to connect and then the next in que will cycle and the same will continue until I quit the client.
I tried to setup a bouncer to see where this would get me and I could actually see the request being made by the client then it said it was checking for the ident and then it quits.

Well this is unknown to me because I use those also and have never had any issues with them.
They both use the /etc/resolv.conf to find the bind server to query.
If you compiled the client that is giving you this error(since that's what i asked for) then I would would recompile it and make sure you set the configure strings right.

I am. Any server I try to connect to will not connect at all.
This is a webserver running cpanel and last night while I was trying to test the ports I ran across this one particular link from the whm which specifically asks if the server be setup to scan for any bouncers or irc clients and kill them immediatly.
In the same section it also lets you choose which (if any) users should be excluded from the filtering. I suspect that maybe cpanel has firewall blocking these types of protocols from accessing the internet.
I was going to make a post with cpanel forums to see if they might be able to assist.
