We have 2 older devices, a printer and a gaming console.
Each device has an ethernet port so in their "networking setup", you can specify:
DHCP client
OR
static IP address with subnet mask, gateway and DNS addresses
This works fine when I connect it to a typical home LAN router (like Linksys, Dlink, etc.)
Both devices are accessible over the network and
both devices are also able to download the respective updates, etc. from the internet. All good so far.
So I take these devices over to my friend's apartment where they do not have a direct internet connection.
Instead, they have SOCKS and HTTP proxy in their LAN.
(All we know is that - there a Linux Router/Firewall in the closet.)
So they have to do a Manual proxy configuration for internet access.
This works for their computers but:
How can I get the printer and the gaming console to work on this LAN?
How do you specify proxy settings on a device when all you can do is setup the device as a DHCP or Static client?
