Manual configuration of two nics

Hi

I have two nics under slack 9.1, but my problem is this, only one is ever detected and comes up as eth0,

If i just have one pluged in and run netconfig i can connect to the internet with my cable modem, but if i stick the second one in i cant connect to the internet, and the one that is configured is the second one, so i can configure it for my network.

How do i manually configure them? i am not bothered which one is eth0 or eth1, i will even change the nic that is connected to modem if i have to (it just takes a call to the isp)

Also the nics are both different at the minute, but i can put two identical ones in, will this help?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Take a look at your /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf and the solution shall be revealed.
