Help whith network manual configuration
My computer is a part of a local ethernet in which, the
computers access to the internet via a proxy server.
My problem is that the network is unrechable.
The network administrators give to each computer the adresses of :
ip,subnetmask,gateway,DNS.
I try to do:
1. Whith ifconfig to configure the eth0 and lo interfaces
(the Broadcast adress is confusing me,because i dont know its adress )
2. Edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and put the right adresses.
(When i run this file the result is : network is unrechable)
3. Whith route to configure the kernel ip tables whith no success.
(under the gateway is a * and i believe this means that there is
no adress to gateway, but i can't change it.)
4. Run netconfig whith no results.
The only result is that i can see some shares in the local ethernet
(from my workgroup ?)but there is no ping response from gateway and
always the network is unrechable. (whith windows all works fine)
I thing that the problem is simple, but i cant find it. Maybe the
route command gives the solution.
Help me whith route command and tell me other (files, commands, tools)
that you now about network configuration ,or what is my mistake.
