Hi i am a new to linux i am a windows man but my work just upgraded the server the red hat so i am stuffed i need to know
how to setup a new user account any help would be great
thanks...
From a terminal window:

In the gui - system settings - users and groups
For info try "man useradd" at the command line without the quotes.
Hope this helps, I use RH9.0
I am running rh8 i went into startx and setup a user account and added it into the groups etc but when i try to logon to the server from a PC it cant reconise the password but if i go on to the server i can log on as the user but cant see anything ie if i go ls i get nothing and there is no home directory either even though i told it to make one any ideas anyone?
uh did you choose grub to load up with?
If so if have never done it before I might suggest you start over and choose Lilo just so you can get to the X envoiroment.
Now if you did not choose to load X -KDE or Gnome then you are running from command line only and you won't see anything but text.
How are you logging on with the user account you created? Could you be more specific?
Are you trying to ssh to the server with the user account you created and it doesn't allow you to log in, or are you using the server to validate users on the network and the user can't sign in on any machine on the network?

I'm not ure what you are talking about there.
I have Red Hat 8.0 on this machine and it uses GRUB and I am in the 'X environment'.
