Group Policy alternative for Linux workstations.

Hello Experts,

We have a heterogeneous environment in which we have both linux and windows based workstations.Implementing group policy settings on the windows workstations is easier as Active Directory supports it by default for windows but I need to figure out some software that can implement group policy or something group policy alike on linux workstations both ( Redhat and Debian based). Please suggest both open source and paid tools/softwares if there are any...

Thanks
Frank

LDAP would be the classic solution. A web search for LDAP Linux will turn up many tutorials.

ldap linux

Hello Frank,

I am looking for an alternative of group policy objects (GPO) for linux workstations so that I can apply password policies and restrict use of certain features like only allow certain programs to run on user's workstations etc.

Thanks

You should look into idM (IPA) with brings to several services (including LDAP, Kerberos KDC, DNS, SSSD, NTP). You can do things like define password policies, sudo, user group access. It works very well and even has replication.
