FTP server

i'm having problems with the FTP server that comes with Redhat..kwu-ftpd. all other services seem to work. when i do a ftp to localhost (127.0.0.1), it works, but takes forever to connect(over a minute). when i try to ftp from another computer connected by a hub, it just times out. any suggestions?

inetd

this could be any number of things, but there are a few simple things to check for: firewall rules (like ipchains or iptables) and inetd (or xinetd for newer rh) config. look for /etc/inetd.conf file or /etc/xinetd.d/ directory.

i'll check for the directory/file tonight. would it be easier to download a different server, or do they all depend on the same files? thanks

FTP servers

there are other options (i'm using the standard wu and it works for me) - try the howto : http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/mini/FTP.html
or search freshmeat.net for other servers like ncftp
