I've searched this site for answers to my question, but so far i haven't figured out what to do.
I've set up a name server, i've registered a name with godaddy, and in their config place for a domain name server, i don't know what to put. I have a dynamic ip, given to me by AT&T, which has since become comcast, and they also gave me a static domain name. In the godaddy config place, i've tried to put mystaticname.com and mydnscomputer.mystaticname.com, but it gives me this error message:
mystaticname.com is not a registered name server OR
mydnscomputer.mystaticname.com is not a registered name server
and when i put my.dynamic.ip.address i get
Invalid domain name extension: my.dynamic.ip.address
So i'm stuck. i've read somewhere, ( i think on this site ) that i need to register my name server with my ISP, but when I searched for "dns" and "domain name server" at comcast.com and comcast.net, i found nothing about any type of registering. I've also checked out dyndns.com, but that doesn't seem to be what i want...so how do i get godaddy.com to get the name i registered there to use my computer's domain name server?
Currently I'm using the URL forwarding, which changes mydomain.com immediately to mystaticname.com, with no other capabilities
All I want is for mydomain.com to be directed to my apache server, without changing name, and also for
ftp://mydomain.com to access my ftp server, and for
mail@mydomain.com to access my mail server (which is one thing i need to set up).
Thanks
