dhcp-pump-ifup not doing everything right

NEw install of redhat 7.1
has 2 nics. the internal network is working fine with a stactic ip. My troubles begin with the ETH) card set for dhcp. I have done some reading and pokeing and this is what i know so far. if i do a IFUP on ETH0 it comes back with "Operation failed" <line feed> Done. What I have guessed so far is this. The IFUP script is running "pump" pump says the "Operation failed" then dhcpcd is run. the firts starnge part is after dhcpcd is running and i do a ifconfig i see eth0 has an ip address and it is sorta usable. it pings and ftps for instance but i cant geta tracert or a http call to work. i know pump is not doing something that needs to be done and the roadrunner router is not sending all [ackets to it(assumption based on tracerts from inside and outside network). I am a linux novice (just plain linux dumb). i alread the dhcp mini howto but the fix does not apply the the new redhat 7.1 IFUP script. PLease help! (shameless begging)
