Problems with DHCP or PUMP

I am having some problems getting eth1 to fetch an ip from my cable modem or my internet provider

I have a Motorola Surfboard SB5100E

Code:
#It work on my windows computer
Physical Address: 00-10-DC-DE-E1-0C
IP Address: 83.250.1.98
#if no connection to my isp the cable modem should assign a local ip address
#IP Address: 192.168.100.11
Subnet Mask: 255.255.248.0
Default Gateway: 83.250.0.1
DHCP Server: 10.125.1.11
Lease Obtained: 2004-10-02 16:01:44
Lease Expires: 2004-10-02 17:01:44
DNS Servers: 195.67.199.39, 195.67.199.40
WINS Server:
Note, I have tried cloning the MAC address on my linux computers ethernet card but it didn't work.. also I called tech support and they said the modem isn't storing any information so it should work in all computers and also my isp isn't storing anything so it should work with whatever macaddress/hostname I have

Code:
#gentoo
tux# ifconfig eth1
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:21:CC:CB:CD
          BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:17 errors:140 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:137 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:1020 (1020.0 b) TX bytes:52538 (51.3 Kb)
          Interrupt:12 Base address:0xc400

tux init.d # dhcpcd -d eth1
#tux init.d # dhcpcd -dr eth1
#tux init.d # dhcpcd -dDH eth1
#tux init.d # dhcpcd -drDH eth1

dhcpcd: MAC address = 00:00:21:cc:cb:cd
Oct 1 22:11:03 tux dhcpcd[8114]: broadcasting DHCP_DISCOVER
Oct 1 22:11:13 tux eth1: no IPv6 routers present
Oct 1 22:12:03 tux dhcpcd[8114]: timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response

# I think the net.eth1 scrips is using pump
tux init.d # ./net.eth1 start
 * Bringing eth1 up via DHCP...
tux init.d # tail -f /var/log/messages
* Oct  1 20:47:37 tux eth1: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1
* Oct  1 20:47:47 tux eth1: no IPv6 routers present
* Oct 1 20:49:37 tux dhcpcd[6862]: timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response
I had another cable modem that worked fine a couple of days ago but it was limited to 1mbit so therefore I have to use the motorola modem, is it any files/cache I have to delete/edit or clean?,

Any help appreciated

i get a feeling it'll be something to do with the driver. i have a cheap-o network card that under windows xp will dhcp my network and pick up a network connection, but as soon as it touches linux dhcp stops working on it.

Try looking around the net for other drivers for it.

Hope this helps

ok

i had a similar problem with the same modem.

turn off your modem completly, unplug it from the wall, leave it 5 minutes.

plug it back in, boot up your pc and *pOw!* you'll get an address,

ieuuk: I don't think its the modules fault, I have a D-LINK DFE-530TX and the via-rhine module is compiled into the kernel 'static' atleast I think so :P, so doing a lsmod doesn't show what module is loaded for the nic ..

any suggestions on how to find out?

bruj3w: Already tried that, also tried to unplug the modem for a couple of hours, but I will try again... perhaps it will work this time :P
EDIT: by unpluggin you are meaning the power cable right?, not the optic whatever cable sending the data

Strange, I changed network cable and did what you said about shutting the PC off, works..
Though I've tried the other network cable between two computers a few minutes ago and it works ?
