dhclient.conf specs
I have a Linux box connected via LAN to a WIN2K workstation
running ICS which provides NAT connectivity to LAN machines.
The Linux box is set to receive an IP address automatically
from the ICS DHCP mini-server and works but I would like
to set a fixed IP address on this client. Currently, the
assigned IP address changes with every boot, so I tried this
entry in dhclient.conf:
lease { fixed-address 192.168.0.100; }
This failed to produce the desired IP address.
Is there something wrong with my syntax or am I just tilting
at windmills thinking that the ICS DHCP server could respond
to such a request?
An interesting note:
The ICS server always assigns the same address to any WIN98
machines set up as clients on the LAN.
I originally assigned a fixed IP address in the rc.inet1.conf
(Slackware) network setup, but have not been able to change
back to this since I started experimenting with ICS DHCP.
