Debian "sarge"/ NIC problem

I installed the basic configuration for Debian sarge, so that I can download the latest packages from the internet; oh surpirse of mine, my NIC didn't work.
So I made sure the module for this card is installed, and up. And then I configure the interfaces file in order to activate DHCP. The file looks like this: iface eht0 inet dhcp

My connection is as follows: Cable modem -> router -> computers.

I do not know what else to do, since this is my first time installing a card manually.

Hope someone can help me.
