CentOS as NAS

Hello everybody,

I have a fresh installed CentOS server, and i would like to know if there is any way to use it as a NAS "drive". Can i somehow use some space of this server in order to automatically backup various files?

Sure, just set up an NFS and/or SSHFS and/or Samba server, mount it from whatever other machine you want, and dump the data onto it.

All a NAS is is a computer (usually running Linux) with the above-mentioned services installed and running.

Pretty much every Linux system I manage is hosting data via NFS, Samba, or both.

What systems will you be accessing this storage from? If they're all Linux, then I would go with NFS. If you have some Windows/OSX systems in there then you should use Samba.

Features a NAS might run are as above samba, nfs but also might include HTTPS as in barracuda server, ISCSI, FTP and if you use apple some of their stuff.

I'd look at what common soho NAS devices offer or look at Freenas config for some ideas.

As to easy is well.....
