Post Bind 9.3.6 - P1 Installation and configuration on OEL 5

Hi All

I am trying to install Bind 9.3.6 - P1 on OEL 5 Update 4 which is running on Oracle VM Server as Oracle Template OVM_EL5U4_X86_PVM_4GB

Requirement :

We have two different domains

1. abc.com
2. abc.co.in

Some of the Servers are in :
abc.com

xyz.abc.com
def.abc.com

... and more

abc.co.in
bcd.abc.co.in
fgh.abc.co.in

And the LAN is in the IP Range 192.168.x.x/16

We want our DNS Server to:

1. Act resolve reverse delegation i.e from any IP to Hostname mapped in DNS Server
2. Resolve Internet Traffic of my users whose DNS will be my DNS Server
3. Resolve hostname to IP

I installed the follwing rpms from OEL 5 U4 DVD :

bind-9.3.6-4.P1.el5.i386.rpm
bind-chroot-9.3.6-4.P1.el5.i386.rpm
bind-libbind-devel-9.3.6-4.P1.el5.i386.rpm
bind-devel-9.3.6-4.P1.el5.i386.rpm
bind-libbind-devel-9.3.6-4.P1.el5.i386.rpm
bind-libs-9.3.6-4.P1.el5.i386.rpm
bind-utils-9.3.6-4.P1.el5.i386.rpm

When I tried creating DNS Server :
Dig worked on the server but when i am giving the IP of the DNS Server on another machine it cannot resolve any IP or Internet Address

Giving the following Messege on nslookup

DNS request time out
timeout was 2 seconds
***'Cant find server name for the address 192.168.1.x : Time Out
***Default Servers are not available
Default Server - Unkwoun
Address : 192.168.1.x

Thanks
Raj

Hi,

It looks like a firewall problem. You should open port 53 tcp/udp on server.

Regards
