backing up hdds over the network

My plan is to backup a couple of my linux boxes to another linux box(all are rh). The two are running a couple of servers each.

My initial thought is to archive an image of each computer's drive weekly and archive some of the more important directories every 4 or so hours.

Does this sounds reasonable or is there a better way of doing this? And how would I go about this?

~Thanks
