Ok I'm new to Linux and I could very well be missing something simple so I thought I would ask before I blew away my install (for the who knows how manyth time)...
I set eth0 to pull DHCP, pluged the ethernet cable into eth0 and rebooted. I then went into Internet Setup Wizard (running GNOME) and went through the xDSL setup, I put in all the correct info and clicked on Finish... well thats all that happend. I could not find a way to activate it anywere =( I did see a device listed for xdsl but no way to start it or make it log in.... Any suggestions?
I had the same question but never any answer if my DSL connection dies I have to reboot you'll see it initialize ppp0
then you'll notice the lights on your modem flicker then it will
read ok and I'm set to go
But as you posted i see no way to just click an icon to enable
Thanks guys =) Over the weekend I managed to figure out that I need to use PPPoE for my DSL client. Problem was that I didn't have any way to get on to download the files =( So I will download the needed RPMs from work, burn them to CD and give it a shot =)
is dhcp running? check with ps ax | grep dhcp
if not try starting it manually with the command dhcpcd.
does you have to register the mac address of your nic card with your isp?
if any dhcp process is running, try killing it off first and then restarting it with dhcpcd -k
what do you get from ifconfig?
what do you get from route?
