hi, i bought a oneplus 8 5g from sprint today and i am trying to root it before i load my stuff to it (the bootloader menu mentions its product name is kona).
when i go to developer options, i am able to turn on usb debugging but oem unlocking is greyed out.
Code:
[root@hyper ~]# adb reboot bootloader
shows
Quote:
...secure boot - yes
device state - locked
on the fone.
Code:
[root@hyper ~]# fastboot flashing unlock
FAILED (remote: 'Flashing Unlock is not allowed
')
Finished. Total time: 0.001s
[root@hyper ~]# fastboot oem unlock
FAILED (remote: 'Flashing Unlock is not allowed
')
Finished. Total time: 0.001s
thanks. i used to buy nexuses but pixels started to get too expensive so i moved to essential. i thought oneplus was similar in that they are less restrictive.
i bought the fone outrite (no lease plan) so its mine.
my previous fone was an essential so i never knew the carrier got in the way of unlocking the boot loader... but i remember having to wait til after payoff to get the fone carrier unlocked ( which is different). i gotta' admit, i have no idea what all these password and codes being mentioned are (wow, a lot has changed in three years).
i came across this site in my searches but i dont have an unlock code ? not sure the purpose of this site since fastboot mode doesnt have internet access ?

Yeah, me too - I tend to buy them when a new model is announced, and went nexus 5, 6P, pixel 4. If I keep them long enough they don't seem so expensive - to me it's a handy camera, not a phone/social interaction tool. I usually don't even notice when the battery runs out.
Can't help with the Oneplus - I was on their original invite list, but they took too long to get up and going with production and I went to the nexus.

Looks good.
Isn't the purpose of that page to give you an unlock code? And instructions on how to use it?
^ no, i have to supply them the unlock code but i dont have it.
still seems weird i have to go to some chinese website in order for me to have access to my fone (what if i dont have internet access) ?
