Ah, so OP thinks it's windows 10 when really it is themed Linux. That's funny that they call it "under cover" mode. I can't imagine a worker using Kali at work when they are not supposed to. I have license and authority to pen test during my work hours - if I was a "regular" worker and did that, I would be fired.
Even in a red team scenario, it would be difficult to get away with running Kali in undercover mode.
Distribution: Currently: OpenMandriva. Previously: openSUSE, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, among others over the years.

From the link TB0ne posted, it clearly is designed to "trick" passers-by into thinking that you're using Windows 10 - it doesn't change the intended purposes of Kali.

No clue what the "windows 10" desktop is in Kali because the Kali version available from Kali has no such thing. Might be something Microsoft did to it to make it more attractive to their users.
This is a new kali with two desktops you switch with the terminal command kali-undercover
Yes it does run as root but gives a warning.
So far I have added the cinnamon desktop to the xfce desktop. Unfortunately it now has both desktops at the same time. Hope to fix this.
FYI, never run a normal desktop as root. The danger is that the desktop processes will all run as root, which for apps accessing the Internet, is a dangerous thing if you value your system. If you are OK with the possibility of your system being compromised while on the Internet, then that's on you.

I'm wondering if you really understand what the undercover desktop is...
It's intended to be used in public places when you fear to be spotted using your weird system doing weird stuff as you'd rather be discreet.
