Slackware on ASUS Zenbook UX303 L

Posted 10-28-2015 at 08:38 AM by Tonus (My GNU/Linux and me)

As I stated in my first post, dealing with Debian testing with apt-get and aptitude made me mess quite everything... Thinking all this automation wasn't for me, I recalled Slackware had a -current flavor that might by more up to date than stable release.

I decided to make the switch.

First problem, I had no more usb stick available... But fortunately, grub2 offers the hability to boot straight from an iso image :

So the Goal was to install Debian.

I started with this link (in french) : http://www.forum-des-portables-asus....ws-uefi-2-3-1/

Basically, you will have to :

- check that the drive has GUID table (GPT)
- check the BIOS options (disable secure boot, no CSM/Legacy boot)
- write down how the drive is parted and resize the destination part if necessary
- create the bootable usb stick with rufus (here in french)...

My GNU/Linux and me

Posted 10-28-2015 at 08:34 AM by Tonus (My GNU/Linux and me)

Hi all !

First some of personnal history for my first blog post :

I started linux with Slackware 9.0 on an already old VAIO laptop in 2003. I learned a lot running it till Slackware 12.1

Then, while I met my wife, the hardware was becoming old. She had brand new Mac devices and was changing quite often her smartphone. I then shifted for a while with OSX and (jailbroken) iOS devices at home while forced to go with Windows at work. Thanks Google,...
